INTRODUCTION
Australia 's sunniest state capital.modern, vibrant and striking! On the western coast of Australia , situated between the cerulean Indian Ocean and the ancient Darling ranges, you will find the isolated and yet dominating city of Perth . The city centre, located on a sweep of the Swan River , presents a concoction of sterile concrete-and-glass skyscrapers, nineteenth century buildings and scatterings of greenery. Travelling around Perth is exceptionally simple, as a consequence of minimal traffic and a central public transport organization called Transperth which operates the full scope of buses, trains and ferries. Notably, a free transit zone, including all Transperth buses and trains, is provided every day within the central city area. For the more energetic, bicycle routes are a common feature around the city and its environs. THINGS TO DO There exists a vast range of outdoor activities, most popular of which are the swimming and surfing on offer at some of the best city beaches in Australia . In addition, Rottnest Island supplies a hotspot for diving and fishing activities, the Avon River is a popular canoeing spot, and yachting is both fashionable and bountiful. For those interested in pursuing a more cultural slant, the Berndt Museum of Anthropology houses one of Australia 's finest collections of traditional and contemporary Australian Aboriginal art and artifacts, and the Museum of Western Australia displays a cornucopia of simply everything. The city of Perth provides outstanding shopping opportunities, as well as an infinite array of restaurant, nightlife and entertainment venues. To the west of Perth at the mouth of the Swan River can be found the effervescent harbourside city of Fremantle, renowned for its restaurant and café lined streets, historical sites, art centres and magnetic charm. Throughout Perth there prevails a thriving social calendar with an assortment of festivals sprinkled throughout the year, and concerts and sporting events supplying a consistent supply of entertainment. HEALTH Western Australia covers approximately one-third of the Australian continent, but has less than one-tenth of the nation's population. Western Australia has abundant mineral resources and many mining communities, as well as extensive agricultural areas. As well as preventable disease, there is a high incidence of preventable death and injury from motor vehicle accidents and farm accidents in these mining and farming communities, compared to the rest of the population. There are 5 major public teaching hospitals in Western Australia, 9 major regional public hospitals and 68 smaller hospitals located in country areas. Due to the large geographical area of Western Australia, there are a large percentage of people living in remote areas. Health care in remote regions of Western Australia is delivered by GPs or District Medical Officers from the regional hospitals who travel to remote communities, in conjunction with Remote Area Nurses and Aboriginal Health Workers. Specialist treatment usually involves transport of patients to larger centres (usually Perth or Darwin) but where possible, Indigenous people are treated within their communities. Transport of patients to central areas, and of health workers to remote areas, is often delivered by the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
