INTRODUCTION

Brisbane offers a lifestyle that is second to none in Australia . Famous for its great weather, exciting events and cultural scene, Brisbane has a sophisticated, warm and friendly charm which will always manage to surprise. As the capital of the " Sunshine State ", Brisbane offers the ultimate in food, wine, arts, entertainment and major sporting and social events, all touched with Queensland 's relaxed tropic air.

Brisbane is the centre of a region rich with natural beauty, blessed with magnificent beaches, river, rainforest and mountain experiences. Less than half and hour from the city centre is Moreton Bay and its islands. Here you can enjoy a variety of water sports in a quiet beachside village environment. If you're hankering for surf, the famous beaches and resorts of the Sunshine and Gold Coasts are just over one hour's drive away.

Visitors and residents can get around the city in the Queensland sunshine with the Brisbane River City Cats. Getting to work or exploring the river can be an enjoyable adventure when you travel along the Brisbane Rover on high speed catamarans.

There is an array of other public transport options, in addition to normal city buses; there are City express services which run between the city centre and the suburbs and Rockets (fast peak-hour commuter buses). The fast City train network has seven lines, which make commuting around the CBD and surrounds seamless.

If you would prefer to drive to work, there is light traffic and plenty of parking, which makes getting to work a breeze.

THINGS TO DO

Brisbane 's warm evenings are perfect for enjoying the diversity of the city nightlife. Live music clubs, bars and discos to suit all tastes can be found across the city. Some of the most popular spots are located in the Riverside quarter, at Caxton Street , and in Fortitude Valley . The Treasury Casino, located in the beautifully restored Treasury Building at the top of Queen Street , is another popular night time venue.

Brisbane also boasts the kind of dining diversity you would expect from this culturally colourful city. The atmosphere is delightfully casual with an emphasis on original menus focusing sharply on fresh food and wines with flair.

Brisbane is also the state's cultural hub, with a thriving arts and cultural scene. A full calendar of first class theatre, opera, ballets, musicals and concerts compliments a bursting program of exhibitions, installations and cultural attractions.

HEALTH

In terms of population, Queensland is the fastest-growing state in Australia, with the largest influx of new arrivals from other states.

Queensland is divided into three health zones; Northern, Central and Southern; with each zone subdivided into Health Districts.

The population of each District is serviced by one or more base hospitals (95 in all), nursing homes, outpatient clinics and community health centres. Queensland also has 55 private hospitals and 46 private day hospitals. The Queensland Government provides a range of community-based and state-based primary health care services, such as the Home and Community Care program, breast screening, quit smoking and early intervention mental health programs.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service often transports patients to central areas and health workers to remote areas. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health care in remote regions of Queensland is delivered by government salaried GPs or District Medical Officers working with Remote Area Nurses and Aboriginal Health Workers from the local Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations.
